As always I like to recap on the past month’s posts, going on’s, and general happenings. This is usually a quick review of where I felt I succeeded and sometimes failed during the prior month.
Often times I have a theme for the month end review and August is no exception. This is the best way I’ve found to concisely put the previous month into context. So for the month of August I feel the statement “don’t spread yourself too thin” is an appropriate theme.
The Sales Pro Blog has been live for over 6 months now and a lot has happened since the first post on March 1st, 2013. Many of the changes from the original idea are the result of readers like you and other inspirations I find living the life of a salesperson.
Every day I come up with something new. An idea for a blog post, an ultimate resource I want to write, a newsletter idea, or something a little more grand.

Although it’s one thing to capture those ideas, it’s a whole other thing to focus your attention and prioritize putting them into action. And this is an area where I have always felt I can do better, and so can you.
Don’t get me wrong, having a lot of great ideas is a good thing. It is essential for a blogger and salesperson like myself. But sometimes those great ideas can take me on tangents that weren’t expected and leave other (equally great) ideas by the wayside.
This is not a good thing.
A “great idea” is only great if it is actually put into action. ~ Tweet This!
In my last month end review I talked about starting an ultimate resource for salespeople starting their own sales blog. It is planned to be an all inclusive page that has everything needed for the “new to sales” and the “new to blogging” to start their first website.
I’ve done a lot for the page since then and I’m really excited about the concept. But since the July month end review I’ve come up with two equally great ideas that I’ve started working on as well. In a way these two have taken time away from the sales blog resource and that could be a problem.
After all, one idea takes time to implement. Two ideas split your resources. Three ideas require focus.
Do I feel 3 ideas is too much to handle? No absolutely not. I personally think 3 is my lucky number.
But it can be too much if I don’t focus on what I am doing and allocate my time effectively. Which is why I will ONLY focus on three ideas for the month of September and at any one time moving forward.
I’ll go into more detail on those three ideas below in the What’s New? section but first I want to highlight my posts from August.
It was a great month and I really enjoyed writing these posts. My favorite posts is probably Make A Plan And Don’t Freak Out if for no other reason that I announced that my wife is pregnant. Very excited!

Whats New?
The month end reviews are a great way to keep a pulse on the Sales Pro Blog and make sure it is going in a direction I want and that is helpful to it’s readers.
I had the perfect opportunity this month to do just that. A reader emailed me asking to write about a specific topic, how often to “touch” a prospect or client, and I was more than happy to help.

Clearly this was an area of prospecting that I hadn’t covered in depth so I was excited to write something on it right away.
Situations like that are EXACTLY why I started the Sales Pro Blog.
To be HELPFUL.
To SHARE my knowledge
To conceptualize my EXPERTISE
To DEVELOP my own sales methodology
I am only one person, with one mind, and one point of view. I miss things. I leave other things out. I am not perfect. I need your help to make this site better for you, and make myself a better sales person.
Something else you may have noticed is that I’ve created a landing page for my sales blog ultimate resource.
If you look at the pages at the top you’ll see *Start A Sales Blog*. Because I’ve seen a lot of interest in the idea and some have asked to stay apprised of my progress I’ve created a email sign up for those who want to be kept up to date on the latest news and be part of the creation process.

Moving Forward
As mentioned above I will spend the next month on only my best ideas to make sure that I do not spread myself too thin, and can give each one the attention it deserves.
The first idea How To Start A Sales Blog you are already aware of. It is meant to be an ultimate resource for any sales person looking to start their own blog which I highly recommend for every sales person.
The second idea is an Ultimate Sales Resume Resource post. I’ve mentioned my experience reviewing sales resumes a few times before so I thought it would be a good idea to put the culmination of my knowledge on “paper”.
I started working on this post a while ago and it’s already at almost 3,000 words. I expect to have that completed and released in the next month or so. What I am still weighing is if I want to continue developing it as a regular (if extensive) blog post here on SPB or as an eBook or something else.
If you have an idea on how I should release it let me know in the comments below.
The third idea is the Sales Pro Blog Podcast. I love podcasts and have been thinking about starting my own. I know they are another great avenue to get my message out there but because I have no experience with them I’ve been a bit hesitant to start one. However after doing a lot of research I’ve decided it’s now or never. I’m still working out the details but initially I think I will have the podcast focus on one subject which can benefit EVERY salesperson…prospecting!
This idea is the one I’ve spent the least amount of time on so far but I feel is the idea with the best ROI for my time. If you have ideas for a sales prospecting podcast please please please contact me or comment in the section below.
Or even better, if you’re interested in being a part of it, by interview or with just your own sales prospecting tips, let me know. I’m always interested in hearing other great sales tips and tricks from my readers which I’m happy to showcase here on The Sales Pro Blog.
