Writing Process Blog Hop

by Johnny Bravo · 3 comments

Writing Process Blog HopI’ve been writing online for more than 3 years now. I’ve written about many passions, both professional and personal and have developed tremendously as a writer since I first started online.

This is not to say that I am in anyway an expert now, but I can honestly say I’ve gotten much better since the early days. I’ve mentioned before that the Sales Pro Blog is not my first site. In fact it is my fifth or sixth.

And although it isn’t my first it is the longest lived and the one I’ve found myself to be most passionate about. I first started this site while doing my extended training in Ohio. I had other sites going but was just too overwhelmed at the time to keep them all going. And a fellow trainee, who was new to sales, suggested I start a sales blog.

I’ve been writing here ever since.

And I have to say that if it wasn’t for the community of bloggers which I’ve come to meet it could have been a much different story.

Through this community I met and was asked to join in a blog hop by Patricia Weber. I am also proud to say that I am a contributing chapter author in her upcoming book, Communication Toolkit for Introverts: Essential Skills for Everyday Business Success.

I’ll begin my part in this blog hop with Patricia’s author bio. Afterward, I will answer four questions about my writing process before tagging two other authors who have accepted my invitation to participate. Normally there would be three authors but unfortunately someone had to drop out before I was able to find a replacement.

Now A Little About Me

What am I working on?

I often feel I am always working on more than I should be at any one time. I have to imagine most people feel that way. But as of this current moment I have a few projects which have taken my focus.

First of all I have started a new site for my son, BaileyBravo.com. I’m working to get some content on it and get the site flowing. This is a personal site and my way of controlling my son’s brand online until such time as he is able to take control of it himself. Who knows what the internet will look like then, but for now this is something I will do.

I am also working on another book contributor project having to do with sales and careers. I don’t know how much of the project is public so I won’t go into too much detail here. But with my contribution I will also include a special giveaway to the readers. As that project gets closer I’ll be sure to keep you updated.

As for the Sales Pro Blog, I’m working hard to start my podcast and YouTube channel. I feel these are the next natural steps to help spread the word through other media channels. I don’t feel that topics are the problem with getting that completely off the ground, more so with the look and feel of them.

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

I think the main reason that this site is different from many other sales sites is because I am an active sales executive. I’m in the field everyday using the the techniques I talk about here. I don’t own my own business and I am not a consultant…yet.

So the things I talk about and the experiences I share are from the ground floor.

I will never say I am the ultimate expert at sales. I don’t believe anyone takes that crown. But I am always learning and trying to develop my skills. I will never tell you that THIS is the best way to do this or that. I don’t believe any one sales process is better than the other. I believe in taking a little bit of as many as you can, and catering them to your personality, your style.

Why do I write what I do?

I like to say that I have the heart of a teacher. My goal is to help new sales professionals be successful and experienced reps improve their skills.

I feel an obligation to help others learn something that I have learned myself. I feel that every professional should. If you’re good at writing, teach others how to be better writers. If you’re good at raising cattle, help others raise cattle better.

How does your writing process work?

I have a lot of ideas that come to mind at any one time. Most often I will write a great idea down in anyway I can and come back to it later. A lot of my ideas come when I am driving in the car from Los Angeles to San Diego. A lot goes through my mind on that 2-4 hour drive. Since I can’t write I’ll usually use the voice recorder on my iPhone.

For those times when I can write, I simply create a new post as a draft and queue it for the next available slot on my calender.

Sometimes you’ll see posts that took me hours or days to write. Others I wrote the night before in about 30 minutes. I really can’t predict how long something will take me or how many revisions I’ll put on it before hitting publish.

I am the kind of writer that tries not to dwell too much on my posts though (unlike my soon to be podcast or Youtube channels). I understand they will never be perfect in my eyes but it’s better to get the information out at 95% then never get it out at 100%.

In general I try to write my posts a couple of days in advance at the very least. This gives me a chance to revisit them with a fresh outlook to make any changes or additions (sometimes subtractions) I deem fit.

In order to keep the writing process blog hop going, you’ll find two new blogger friends who have accepted my invitation. As I mentioned, there should be three but things happen and life goes on. I am honored to have both these writers in my community.

Krisma of Regal Flair

As a young dreamer who grew up in the Philippines, Krisma relished reading books and writing poems at an early age.

In High School, she became the editor-in-chief of their school newspaper, The Zenith. She was a student leader and an event organizer in college. After graduating with a Marketing Management degree, she pursued her writing career as an event writer in various websites.

Additionally, she’s managing her own blog http://Regalflair.com where she writes short tales, poetry and self-development advice for young women. Apart from being a voracious reader and a passionate writer, Krisma is also a fan of shoes and a lover of nature.

Max Ivey of The Midway Marketplace

Max IveyMax Ivey is the totally blind son of carnival owners in Texas who now makes his living helping people sell new and used amusement equipment and related items.

He also does appraisals and offers a wealth of links to amusement based businesses and the companies that supply them.

He’s currently working to establish a YouTube show based on the industry he loves. He is the owner and writer of The Midway Marketplace.

Hi Johnny; great post my friend. thanks for the mention. but after reading your bio and the bio of the other featured author I realize that I really need to invest some time in my bio. It needs to mention something about how i am inspiring and motivating others. I’m not asking you to change it just saying I need to work on it and would appreciate some suggestions. and this is only the second post in this series i have read yours felt more like a real post than someone completing an assignment. I have something to aspire to here. thanks and good luck, max

Wow - did you create that badge for a BlogHop Johnny? It’s awesome. I love the blog about your son - someday, when he can read, you’re going to be proud of such foresight.

Can’t wait to hear more about your podcast. I presume you’ll get it over to iTunes too?

What a delight to get to know you further through this series!
